A New Season. A New Event Experience.
There’s a first time for everything—including FIRST LEGO League Future Edition events! As one of our inaugural teams, you’re helping launch a brand-new FLL experience in Virginia + DC. We’ll be learning alongside you and adding event details, preparation resources, and guidance here throughout the season.
We are working to publish the VA-DC FLL Future Edition Event Schedule by November 2026.

EVENT DETAILS
Grades K-2
Materials coming October 2026. Event Schedule and Details coming November 2026. Check back soon for updates.
For Grades K-2, Festivals will continue to include a chance to share their work with reviewers, obtain feedback from reviewing sheets, and receive awards to celebrate the season.
Grades 3-8
In BIOGLOW Future Edition, FIRST LEGO League teams (Grades 3-8) celebrate their season journey at a Tournament. While FIRST LEGO League Future Edition will bring some changes with it, many familiar elements will remain, including the strong foundation of the FIRST Core Values, a chance to meet and compete with other teams, the opportunity to receive constructive and complimentary feedback on the hard work done through the season, and the chance to receive recognition in areas of excellence.
Game
Teams can expect three official 2.5 minute matches. One “warm up” match will be required at a VA-DC FLL to ensure a positive team and volunteer event experience.
Approximately 80% of a team’s match score comes from individual performance, and 20% from shared or collaborative elements within the same match.
Judging
Judging remains a critical component of the FIRST LEGO League experience for teams, allowing them to showcase their learning and accomplishments beyond their success in the robot game.
Teams will continue to present their project and engineering design work, along with their use of Core Values, to judges and will be evaluated based on a set of rubrics. Judges will provide each team with both positive and constructive feedback based on those presentations.
