What does a tournament look like?

Celebrate your hard work and meet other teams at a VA/DC FIRST LEGO League tournament! It’s a fun way to cap off your season. Even if you don’t feel 100 percent ready, you will learn a lot and have a great time!

VA/DC Rules and Guidelines

Robot Game

Teams strategize, design, build, program, test and refine fully autonomous robots using LEGO MINDSTORMSTM technology to score points on a playing field table at tournaments and events. Teams get three 2 and 1/2 minute rounds at the playing field.

Core Values Judging

Teams come together for collaboration and discovery in the spirit of friendly competition. In the judging room, teams complete a 5-minute team building challenge and talk to the judges about how they used core values during the season.

Project Judging

Teams collaborate in pursuit of creative, dynamic solutions to a specific real-world problem on a global scale. Teams consult experts and sometimes share their work with the community. At a tournament, teams will present a 5-minute presentation and talk with the judges about their Innovation Project

Robot Design Judging

Teams will also talk with judges about the multitude of decisions the team made while strategizing, designing, and building, programing, and testing their robots. Many teams use a Robot Design Executive Summary when preparing to speak with judges. While not mandatory, you can find out more below
